It may sound like we've started the ABC's of summer already, but we haven't yet.
Today the kids and I were treated to an extra special opportunity when we packed a lunch and went letterboxing at the Browns Point Lighthouse. While we were following the clues to locate the letterbox, we were near a historical boathouse. A nice gentleman asked if we'd like him to get the key to go inside the boathouse to see a custom crafted wooden boat.

Turns out the Keepers Cottage at Browns Point Lighthouse is rented weekly. One of the responsibilities of the weekly renters is to be a docent three of the days during the week and give historical tours of the cottage, boathouse and pump house. What a treat for us!

The cottage was built in 1903 and they had many historical displays in the basement, while the upstairs is reserved for the weekly guests with bedrooms and a refurbished kitchen.

The pump house now contains the original bell from the lighthouse, both kids got to take turns ringing that old bell.
