The kids had recently been reading a book from the library called "Suspension" about the building of the new bridge alongside the existing Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Since today was promising to be another beautiful day, we decided to surprise the kids by taking a family trip to Gig Harbor which would require us to cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to get there.
It was only about a 30 minute drive and once the kids realized where we going, they were so excited to go over the bridge they'd been reading about!

We ended up in the quaint city of Gig Harbor, it is so picturesque...especially on such a gorgeous day!
While we were walking around the harbor, we saw a tall ship with all its' sails up. We found a dock and a short time later that same tall ship was letting passengers disembark right where we were!
After an enjoyable time in Gig Harbor, we headed back toward the bridge.
Fred knew of a little-known park below the bridge so we ventured down there for some more fun in the sun.
It was a perfect September day!

Hope you weren't in Gig Harbor the day of the horrible accident! Isn't Gig Harbor a beautiful place? Looks like the kids had a great time! Beautiful pictures... I recognized Mt. Rainier right away! I found my way over here from 100 days of Christmas and got sidetracked with the pics! I am in the Puyallup area.
