We went on our 3rd annual camping trip with families from our Cub Scout Pack. What an awesome group of families to spend time with, especially this year! Why, you ask? Because this year was 100% wetter than the previous two years, but we still had a great time!
Our June weather in the Pacific Northwest has been cold, and very wet! We planned the camping trip months in advance, trusting that we'd once again have good weather. This year, that wasn't the case.
The kids had a half day for their last day of school.Immediately after, we hit the road for camping. We stopped in the small town of Elbe. Just as we were coming into town, we could see that the old steam engine train for the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad was about to depart. We jumped at the opportunity to check it out!
It was awesome to get up close to the mighty steam engine, and as it was leaving Elbe, the engineer pulled the handle for the AWESOME whistle!
While we were there at the Elbe train depot, there was also this adorable little white church, built in 1906.
After reading a little bit about the history of the church, we learned it's only 18x24 feet and it sits at it's original location. Too cute!

We eventually made it to our group camp site at Mayfield Lake in Mossyrock. Most of us were able to get camp set up before the rain started. Unfortunately for some, they got drenched as they were putting up their tent!
Evan is a happy camper!
On Saturday, the rains continued so we weren't able to do some of the scout activities that had been planned. So what to do? We loaded up all the kids, and most of the adults, and drove 30 minutes to Chehalis to see the new Toy Story 3 movie in 3-D. It was dry, and warm.
The kids were all good sports about the weather. Here's to sunny weather next year!
